This popular, 100-page primer from the ongoing series by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and the Smart Growth Network describes concrete techniques of putting the ten smart growth principles into practice. EPA supported ICMA and the Smart Growth Network to produce Getting to Smart Growth II: 100 More Policies for Implementation. This primer provides states and communities with policy options that can be mixed and matched to fit local circumstances, visions, and values, and highlights steps that the private sector can take to encourage more livable communities. This document follows the format of the first volume, but with an entirely new set of 100 policies and more examples and case studies. Getting to Smart Growth II has an easy-to-read format that includes photographs illustrating elements of smart growth, and a matrix to identify policies that support multiple principles. Along with the first volume of Getting to Smart Growth, this publication will be the cornerstone of any policymaker or smart growth practitioner's reference library.

Coastal Community Planning and Development
This training, targeted at planners, elected officials, developers, business leaders, and other local decision makers, teaches participants about planning processes, current coastal development patterns and trends, and alternatives to conventional patterns of growth and development. It provides them with examples and strategies to implement alternative development principles in their own coastal communities. This training has two components: an initial online component, followed by a one-day in-person workshop.
This course is available by request to be taught at your organization.

A three-hour hands-on introduction to CanVis a visualization program used to simulate potential impacts from coastal development or sea level rise. The workshop includes a basic introduction to visualization concepts and options, hands-on exercises, and a discussion of potential applications.
Trainings are regularly scheduled for virtual workshops and are all free of charge.
